Methodology
How the leaderboard is built — updated September 26, 2026.
What “YTD return” means here
YTD return = (current price − January 1, 2026 price) ÷ January 1, 2026 price × 100. A coin that traded at $100 on January 1, 2026 and trades at $150 today has a +50% YTD return.
Asset universe
The ranking covers the top 500 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization. Assets must also clear a $10,000 minimum 24-hour trading-volume cutoff to appear — thinly traded coins are excluded so the table reflects assets you can actually trade.
Data sources
Prices and market data come from CoinGecko, with OKX as a supplementary source. The January 1, 2026 baseline for each asset is its first available price on or after that date.
Update schedule
The leaderboard is rebuilt every morning with the latest prices, so the ranking always reflects the most recent trading day.
Coins launched after January 1, 2026
Assets that launched after January 1 have no year-to-date return, so they can’t appear on the YTD leaderboard. They are tracked separately in the “New in 2026” section, ranked by return since we began tracking each one, with the tracking start date shown.
